Currently serving as the chief economist of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), he formulates the vision and strategy for the AIIB economic department and leads the department’s work planning, implementation and supervision to support the AIIB’s mission.

Before joining AIIB in September 2020, he served as Director of the Institute of Global Affairs at the London School of Economics and as Chief Economist of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development from 2006 to 2015. During this period, he participated in the creation and promotion of the “Vienna Initiative”, which wasbelieved to have played a positive role in mitigating the 2008 global financial crisis.

He holds a PhD in financial economics and a master’s degree in business economics from the Stockholm School of Economics and is an expert in transition economics and institutional transformation.
