Professor at Johns Hopkins University and former First Vice President of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He has served as First Vice President of the International Monetary Fund, Vice Chairman of JP Morgan Investment Bank, Chief Economist of JPMorgan Chase, Chief Economist and Research Director of Chase Manhattan Bank, Chief Economist and Director of the European Economics and Markets Analysis Groupat Salomon Brothers London Branch.
Early in his career, he worked for the International Monetary Fund for 10 years, overseeing the IMF’s exchange rate monitoring mechanism, analyzing the development of international capital markets, participating in negotiations with multiple member countries, and serving as the Fund’s representative in Chile.
He is currently a professor at Johns Hopkins University, co-chair of the Aspen Institute’s World Economy Program, executive director of the National Bureau of Economic Research, an advisory board member of the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, a director of the Center for Global Development, U.S. Foreign Service Life member of the Relationship Council. He holds a PhD in Economics from Stanford University.
